According to data from the Brazilian Domestic Tourism Bulletin, developed by the Ministry of Tourism and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), one in every four leisure domestic trips in Brazil in 2021 was for ecological or ecotourism destinations.
According to the 2023 report from The Business Research Company, a leading market research firm, the ecotourism sector is expected to have an annual growth rate of 13.4% until 2027.
As a pioneer in harmonizing sustainable tourism with integration with nature, culture, and the local population, the Resort Costao do Santinho is a global model in this segment. A major promoter of sustainable and ecological tourism in Southern Brazil, Costao has attracted tourists from various regions seeking activities and experiences in contact with nature. "Besides being a differentiator, this activity provides a unique and memorable experience for guests and contributes to health and well-being, sustainability, and the preservation of the environment," highlights Ciro Couto, responsible for the Ecology, Culture & Environment Cell at the resort.
The hotel offers trails and hikes that provide unique experiences in contact with nature. There are 14 options for walks and trails that allow you to learn about plants, animals, historical and cultural information, as well as exercise and enjoy incredible views of the Morro das Aranhas Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN). The activities are divided into Ecological Path, Coastal Dunes, Moçambique Beach, Ingleses Beach, Top of Morro das Aranhas, Top of Morro dos Ingleses, Around Morro das Aranhas, Philosophical Stone, Morro dos Ingleses, Morro dos Ingleses to Cristinho, and Around the Hill.
Costao receives about 300,000 guests annually, 1,500 children from schools in Greater Florianópolis, and over 250,000 and more than 400,000 tourist visitors at the open-air archaeological museum. All visitors experience a unique encounter with nature — the RPPN Morro das Aranhas — and the cultural historical heritage of the region, represented by rock inscriptions left by peoples who inhabited the area thousands of years ago. "Tourists and visitors also receive environmental and heritage education, contributing to a change in attitudes and new sustainable habits. As a result, they take this legacy for the rest of their lives," concludes Ciro.
